You’re Invited: “Boy Interrupted” – the Prechter Fund’s 2012 Fundraiser & Educational Event
On Sunday, March 11, at the Michigan Theatre in downtown Ann Arbor, MI, the Prechter Fund will host a large fundraiser & educational event: “Boy Interrupted” - a screening of a 2009 Sundance documentary followed by a panel discussion to raise public awareness of bipolar disorder and to benefit the Prechter Fund’s groundbreaking research into this debilitating illness.
The film tells the heartbreaking story of Evan Perry, a 15-year-old boy who ended his own life after a lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder. It recounts Evan’s life and death in the words of his parents, filmmakers Hart and Dana Perry, and others who knew him. His suicide sent his parents looking for answers from experts, friends and family members, as well as from the reams of video they’d taken of Evan through the years. Illustrating how one family deals with loss and grief, this moving film confronts the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide among children.
The panel discussion will feature Dr. Melvin McInnis (Principal Investigator of the Prechter Fund) as the moderator. Panelists will be Dr. Cheryl King (from U-M’s Youth Depression and Suicide Prevention Program), Dana Perry (the filmmaker & Evan’s mother), and Catherine Starr (a graduate student who is part of the Prechter Fund’s flagship Longitudinal Study on Bipolar Disorder).

Saks Fifth Avenue to Partner with the Prechter Bipolar Research Fund
This February 2012, Saks Fifth Avenue will give 5% of all registered purchases made with a Saks Fifth Avenue credit card back to charity. The donations will benefit certain local organizations, keeping support within each Saks Fifth Avenue store’s immediate community.
The Prechter Fund is one of the local charities to which customers may wish to allocate their 5% contribution at the store in Troy, MI - part of the Somerset Collection – at 901 West Big Beaver Road.
